How Pikes Peak Fees Work
The highway
The Pikes Peak Highway is 19 miles long and open year-round, weather permitting, with its entrance about 15 minutes west of Colorado Springs on US-24; the city suggests allowing 2 to 3 hours for the round trip. For 2026, a timed-entry permit is required for vehicles passing Mile 7 from May 22 to September 30, bought on top of admission, according to the Gazette. A shuttle from Mile 7, sold as a separate ticket, stops at Glen Cove, Devils Playground and the summit. The system was introduced in 2022.
The Cog Railway
The Broadmoor Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway runs 9 miles from its depot in Manitou Springs, reopened on May 20, 2021, and takes about 3 hours round trip. Its tickets are sold through cograilway.com, separately from the highway.
On a tour
